Driven by passion

Louise has over 40 years of coaching experience in Australia and England. She holds coaching qualifications with both the British Horse Society and the Australian National Coaching Accreditation Scheme.

She is also an active and successful competitor and a previous member of the Western Australian Senior Dressage Squad for several years with two horses: DP Finean and Lord Louie (who was also a previous member of the Australian National Futures Squad for young horses).

Louise developed both these horses from youngsters to FEI, taking great care to ensure the relationship she had with them both was held above their success. Both Finean and Louie were used in demonstrations with international coaches to demonstrate the ‘Happy Athlete’.

More recently she has demonstrated this with Lord Louie riding bridle-less in lecture demonstrations.

Louise offers private and group lessons and often travels to coach at clinics and equestrian camps. Louise's horse-riding clients span from those just starting out to riders successfully competing in official dressage and eventing. She helps people set goals and provides ongoing and online support to enable the progress everyone is looking for. She delivers online lectures to provide opportunity for clients to gain underpinning knowledge to help improve their understanding of the ‘why’ and ‘how’, aiming to provide a sound basis for her students to understand the practice so that they can become thinking, sensitive riders who keep their horses' health and wellbeing at the fore.

What People Are Saying

“‘For more than 16 years under the guidance of Louise Hillman, I have grown from having no formal instruction to becoming a FEI level rider with experience across dressage, show jumping and eventing. Louise’s intuitive and compassionate approach fosters trust, harmony and genuine partnership, creating the conditions for confidence and skill to develop in a way that has been truly life changing.

Her thoughtful emphasis on progression has shaped not only my achievements, but also the way I train, ride and connect with my horses. I am deeply grateful for her ongoing support and for her commitment to sharing her knowledge through clinics in regional areas which reflects the depth of her dedication to the sport and its future.”

- Tracy

“For the rider, Louise provides both theory and practical sections to her lessons - so you understand why and how to do something as well as experiencing the feeling of doing it. For the horse, her focus is on harmony, responsiveness and suppleness - aiming for a happy athlete.”

- Hannah

"Louise has been far more than just my long-time dressage coach. She has been a true mentor. Her empathetic, thoughtful approach has shaped my equestrian career and how I choose to educate my own horses. Louise treats every horse as an individual, and I have consistently felt heard, supported, and constructively guided under her coaching. Riding and competing at a national level truly takes a village, and without Louise in mine, I would not have had the opportunity to ride for Australia as a Young Rider or to win the 3* at Melbourne International Three Day Event. Thank you Louise. I’m fortunate to call you both a friend and a coach."
